I made my first post today and you already want to know my life story. I'm a 61 year old retiree from Alcoa and live on the outskirts of Greenback, Tn (pop. a couple of hundred or so)- southwest of Knoxville - originally from northern West Virginia (Almost Heaven). I've been trying to learn to cook since a teenager but only trying to BBQ for 2 years - I'm just a backyard Qer, but I enjoy reading about the comps, catering, etc and one of the folks from this forum has agreed to allow me to cook a comp or two with his team this year, which I'm looking forward to.

Mark from rural Minnesota, about an hour south of Minneapoils. I am 47 years old and work at a natural gas storage field. I have a wonderful wife and three children from 17-23 yrs old. I am just getting into the true smoker cooking, coming off of a gas fired water smoker. I recently purchased my first wood fired smoker, a used Chargriller that the previous owner had modified.

Looks like it’s my time now. I’m listed on this forum as LA Dawg. For those of you not in the know LA is Lower Alabama and the Dawg is like the Mississippi State University Bulldogs. My name is Wendell Smith, and I’m from Mississippi, but just moved to Baldwin County Alabama after full time RVing for a while. Still plan on doing some traveling, but with the price of gas being what it is, it’s about driven me off the road.
Married a gal from Texas almost 50 years ago, and had to learn to cook to have something fit to eat. She’s a great woman, but she’s like her mother and grandmother, just don’t know how to cook. Anyway I just stumbled upon this site today, but if the names Dave Thread, Garry Howard or Dave Lineback mean anything to you, you will know that I have been around for a while. Kind of got out of Q’ing when we went full time Rving, but now that we have a home plan to start back. I did do a lot of grilling on a small Weber Little Joe while on the road. Took my WSM with me for a while, but it got to be such a hassle that I have it my daughter’s house in Olive Branch, MS at this time. Plan to pick it up in about a month or so.
Just got back from a mini Qfest in Morton, MS. I think this was something like number 5 or 6 at that location. Saw a lot of old friends that I met on the internet.
Happy to be here and hope sto stay for a while.
LA Dawg aka Wendell Smith

I live in Bishop, GA which is just outsideo Athens, GA home of the Georiga Bulldogs. Go Dawgs.
I am in the security business fulltime and catering part time.
I have been cooking bbq for 20+ years and catering since 2000. I started cooking for my employees on 4th of July and it kind of exploded. We cook butts mostly and have done a couple of whole hogs for an annual bbq we have at our home. We have catered events from 10 to 1500 with most around a 100.
One of my worst experiences in business was a night we had to feed 150 or so folks and cooked chicken for the first time and didn't allow enough time. We had some hungry/angry folks waiting and while we got great comments on the food it was outweighed by the complaints on the wait. We learned a bit about scheduling that night.

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I have posted so I thought starting here is a good place. Fisrt off - Hey Ya'll from NKY. Lot of things going on right now. Working back as a metal/plastics/vinyl fab GM and looking at opening a Que & Blues joint. I que through the spring summer & fall and got a lot of good friends on here. I have an exciting opportunity to sell to the public. Woo Hoo! We threw a great cook off and blue bash last Sept 07 at Turfway park and learned a lot about the events. Thanks Billy - Love ya man!!! Remember one thing "Life is one big BBQ"

Peace and smoke on....you will hear from me more.....

Howdy Y'all
I'm brand new here today! I am from Idyllwild California- 6000 feet
I am the Director of a physics and astronomy camp.
I am 50% Italian and 50% Sicilian (that means I have been cooking nearly 100% of my life)
I am 46
I am married and have 4 kids.
I love Q'ing for friends, family, church -basically any gathering I can target. I have been mostly using a WSM and a gas retrofitted ECB. Currently, I am forced to stay away from coal and wood due to a local fire ordinance and so have gotten used to gas with a smoke can for flavor. I sometimes borrow the company Traeger. I am looking to move up to a trailer unit so that I can take the Q to the people! Currently looking into units and favor the gas pig cookers made in the Carolinas- a little like giant grills ...crazy shipping prices though.

WSM
ECB with gas conversion
Traeger
Weber Kettle
