BB -- I haven't eaten their but there is a little place down near SD harbor where all the bar scenes in TOP Gun were shot. I have heard some swear by it and aothers swear at it. I ate at a place last spring that did "wild boar ribs". Not too bad. I think that they cooked in wood fired ovens. I will see if I can recall the name of the place.
ON EDIT: Sorry BB, the wild boar ribs was in Portland. My bad. When I am in San Diego I usually eat fish tacos and other "local" type stuff and drink margaritas. Larry
WEll, I just got back from San Diego (with new marine!!!!)We had agreat time and ate a lot of seafood, and some mexican. The fish tacos were good but not my favorite. We ate at Phil's BBQ which was just across the street from our hotel. I was a little leery about eating there. I didn't see any smoke coming from them and didn't see any woo they would be using. This doesn't mean much sometimes but I like to see smoke and smell it. My wife had the babybacks, which were good but not fantastic. I had the beef ribs and I suspect they were boiled at some point during the cooking process. Tender but no much smoke flavor. My kids had the BBQ burger.Nice size and good flavor. The hand battered onion rings were good, but needed a little more seasoning. The potato salad was very good and the slaw waspretty good. All in all I give it a 7 out of 10. I would go back to try chicken and pulled pork. The sauce was pretty good and the beer was cold. That's my report. If you are going to S.D. and want a couple good mexican or seafood places just let me know.
