hi all, new member, love the site.

before i ask the question, i have poked around in here to see if it
has already been kicked around, but i am not real good at this internet searching yet.

i want to vend at local events here in michigan. however most all events require you to be a restaurant or a caterer to do so. i know its for the health dept rules.

i have heard some where that you can rent restaurant space or catering space in their off hours to prep and hold your raw food, and it is covered by their health dept certificate ? this will get you passed the rules for vending. (need your own insurance tho)

has anyone heard of this practice? and what would be the liability of the rental property if something happens ?

if the above is covered in here, can anyone point me to the info please?

thanks

It is done. Churches are a common source of rental kitchens however, this is more commonly a case of a private organization, school music boosters, local boy scouts, etc. that use the church for the benefit of their group. I am sure there are instances when what you are bouncing around have worked but I am afraid to say that if I were the owner of the kitchen that I would not allow it for host of reasons not the least of which would be the liability. Good luck.

Speak with your local health food inspector they may know of a restaurant who may only serve breakfast or lunch that could benefit from the extra income.

WE USE BENEVOLENT ORGANIZATIONS AND KITCHEN LICENSE PREVAILING WHEN WE VEND AT WEDDINGS AND SUCH AT THEIR HALLS ..HAVE DISCUSSED THIS BEFORE AND MOST township halls and other organizations WILLING TO CONSIDER YOUR PAYMENT FOR A PORTION OF YEARLY HEALTH DEPT LICENSE ..BUT MUST PROVIDE ADDITIONAL LIABILITY TO COVER THEM AS WELL AS YOU, IN PERFORMANCE OF YOUR CATERING .. CAtering is pretty much self designating.. i cater ie" therefore i am a caterer ..got it .. ok now go out there and show us what you can do ...
