I was reading the BBQ Guy's Blog http://bbqguyblog.blogspot.com/ and he posted an entry about an interesting spreadsheet to help calculate costs, portions, pricing, etc. The link for that site is: http://www.azbbqa.net/catering/ .

I downloaded it (free) and played around with it some. I could see how this would be extremely helpful for anyone catering, which I have no immediate desire to do;)

Just thought I'd pass it along since I've seen several posts about how much to charge.

I put it up last night. Has some good info. Was hoping to get some feedback from the Guys/girls. Maybe ol Mr. Bones would give us his $.02 on whether it is a good math or not

Sorry, SC, I missed the post ! I try not to ever repost.

Like you, I'm curious about the math. It would help if we could see the formulas in the calculated cells but they are blanked out and protected.

I TRY NOT TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR DAILY OPERTAION .. SO FORGO MANY DOWNLOADS FROM FRIENDS JUST BECAUSE I WOULD BE CONSTANTLY CLEANING UP AND THROWING OUT .. BASIC CATERING 101 IS THIS .. PORTION ON TO YOUR PLATE ITEMS OF INTEREST .. WEIGH EACH ITEM (PORTION) AND MULTIPLY BY NUMBER OF GUESTS.. KEEPING IT SIMPLE IS BEST ... I'VE SEEN SOME PARTICULARILY WELL THOUGHT OUT CALCULATIONS IN MY DAY .. CALCULATIONS JUST ADD TO NUMBER OF HEADACHES IN LONG RUN ..SO AM BACK TO KEEPING IT SIMPLE ..LAST IS THIS... I ALWAYS ALLOW FOR 5% MORE GUESTS THAN ORDERED .. THIS IS PRICED INTO MENU WETHER USED OR NOT .. (USUALLY NOT) ..

No sweat the re-post. Glad to hear from Billy. I had a hint he would go with the K.I.S.S. method. And he has proven it works. Just wish I could make a class

P.S. Billy, buy a Mac. j/k

My one that shmelty referred to has been updated today to version 3.03.

Catering planner version 3.03 available now from http://www.bbq-review.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10 in the top post on this thread are the new versions of the Excel spreadsheet (.xls) and a Zipped version of the spreadsheet (.zip).

Now using the number of meats and the number of sides with an algorithm to calculate multiple meat / side figures.

Free to use, free to download. Enjoy
