When I called last week to reserve my room at the casino, she said they were filling up fast for that Thursday night.

This will be our 3rd year attending the contest, John throws a great one, like Billy said the drive is long but very pretty, got to stop and grab a couple pasty's and last yr they even served breakfast pasty's to contest participants. A good chance for us Michigan teams to see some of our Wisconsin, Illinois and surrounding states friends.
Billy, are you making the trip this year?
Oh, a little tip, there is the Island Casino in Harris, Michigan, less than an hour from Kingsford where the contest is, stay there Thursday night, happy hour from 3pm-6pm., rooms reasonable $65.00 plus tax.
Take care,
Scott

SDO RIGHT ABOUT HIKING ONE FAMOUS STRETCH FOR HIKERS AND BIKERS IS CALLED 28 MILE "TREE TUNNEL", AS THIS STRETCH SELDOM SEES A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE DUE TO CURVES AND 45 MIPH THROUGHOUT MOST OF THE TRIP. MANY START AT WORLD FAMOUS "LEGGS INN" .NAMED THAT BY THE SECOND PROPRIOTER WHO MADE TABLE AND CHAIRS FROM SURROUNDING FOREST STUMPS AND USE THE OLD CHAIR LEGS TO DECORATE THE ROOF TOP OF THE INN. GREAT FUN THERE TO WATCH THE BARTENDER POUR 28 CHRISTMAS TREE DRINKS AND SET THEM ON FIRE TO SERVE THE PATRONS.. THE VIEWS OF LAKE MICHIGAN AND LITLE ROADSIDE BEACHES IS GREAT GET AWAY FOR MANY YOUNG FOLKS ... AHHHH THE BEACH LIFE IN SUMMER...OHHHH TO BE 16 AGAIN!!DON'T FORGET TO BRING YOU TABLE TOP GRILL YOU'LL N EED SOMETHING TO WARM YOUR HANDS

Pasty's are a good thing. Forget the name of it, but there's a great pasty shop in Madison, Wi. about a block from the capitol building.
Gonna do that around the lake (Michigan) road trip one of these days. Used to spend a lot of time up around Traverse City back in the college days. Would run into people that were hitchhiking across the country but detoured to the northern part of the lower peninsula just cause they heard how great it was.

I DON'T KNOW A SINGLE MICHIGANDER THAT DOESN'T YEARN FOR THE GREAT LAKES SHORELINES. INCREDIBLE BEACHES AND FORESTS THAT DECORATE THE HILLS AND MOUNTAINS, WOODLAND STREAMS. I ONCE TRIED TO GET A POLITITIANS EYE WITH REGARDS TO MAKING THE U.P A NATIONAL PARK. THE WILDLIFE INCLUDES PORCUPINES TO TREE MARTINS. GREAT EAGELS AND OSPREYS.SOME OF BEST WILD TROUT WATERS IN THE NATION .. THANK GOODNESS SHE TALKED ME OUT OF THAT PROMOTION. I CAN IMAGINE THE HOARDS OF FAMILIES AND "SPORTSMEN" CLAMBERING OVER EA OTHER TO "ENJOY THIS WILDERNESS". I OBVIOUSLY STILL FEEL ITS AS CLOSE TO GOD AS I MAY EVER BE. I AM NO LONGER HANGING OUT THE WELCOME SIGN .. I WANT THIS ALL TO MYSELF.. NOW WHEN ASKED, I USUALLY SAY "WHY WOULD YOU GO THERE"? ITS FULL OF MOUNTAIN LIONS, WOLVES, BEARS AND COYOTES, EVEN MOOSE. SOMEDAY YOU CAN SCATTER MY ASHES ON THE BIG TWO HEARTED RIVER. FISHIN NOT SO GOOD BUT BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO ENJOY A TROUT FRESH FROM THE RIVER, FRIED IN SOME BACON DRIPPINS. WITH SOME, FRESH PULLED, WILD ONIONS. SIMMERED OVER A BRISK LITLE CAMPFIREMAYBE A BROWN EYED GIRL CALLS SOFTLY FROM HER TENT I THINK MAYBE LATER, SHORTLY AFTER I FINISH THIS LAST CUP OF CHERRY WINE ..

Sounds great! Wish I could come. Dates are half way between southern Illinois and probably Nashville trip leaving on the 4th and trip to North Carolina first full week of August. Only been to the U.P. a couple times and it has been a long time since the last time. Great and beautiful place. I need to become independently wealthy and retire so I can take advantage of all these fun trips that I could make.
